Sherburn in Elmet Art Club was launched in 1975 by Mr H Beadnell who was responsible for arranging the inaugural meeting at which the aims of the club were outlined.

These aims remain much the same today as those agreed by the founders of the club 33 years ago. The basic format of the club is a practical one, to paint and draw at the weekly meeting , and also to bring in work they have completed at home to be seen and discussed with the other members of the club. In this way, members can benefit from the experience of the other members in a friendly and informative atmosphere. It was also considered that the members should hold an annual exhibition of their work to demonstrate to the general public their enthusiasm, and ability in producing works of art, the said works of art could be offered for sale if required.

Over the years the club has continued to improve both in the quality of the work produced and the dedication of its members, painting in a wide variety of mediums. The club meets on a Tuesday evening from 7 to 10 pm at the Church Fenton village hall, and during the summer evenings at various venues reasonably close to Church Fenton, for outdoor painting.

Anyone who may be interested in joining the club is very welcome  to come along any Tuesday evening to meet our members and judge for themselves if  this is the art club for them! The membership fee is £15 and £7.50 for juniors.

As usual the annual exhibition will be held in the Church Fenton village hall and the dates are  Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of September. There will be a varied selection of large and small paintings on display as well as a variety of craft items. Refreshments are available and a raffle will be held, the proceeds to be donated to a local charity.
